In a final, desperate attempt to avoid billions of dollars of liability, Bayer has filed an appeal with the Supreme Court of The United States to reverse existing verdicts that blame their herbicides for causing cancer. This will be the company’s fourth appeal after a third court recently ruled that glyphosate-based herbicides are responsible for causing cancer.
(Humans Are Free) The weed killer glyphosate — infamously known as Roundup — can be found everywhere: lawns, gardens, parks, soil, rivers and even in the rain (1). But household use of this herbicide is dwarfed by its use in agriculture. And herein lies the problem.
Over the past several years, scientists have discovered that exposure to glyphosate-containing weed killers is a huge threat to public health. And it’s a risk that keeps growing.
The rise of GMO crops — including corn, soy, and canola — has led to a skyrocketing use of glyphosate with almost 300 million pounds applied each year (2). Genetically engineered crops (GMOs) were designed to withstand this toxic herbicide, so it can be sprayed and kill the weeds but not the crop. →
(NaturalHealth365) While gluten has long been identified as the culprit behind celiac disease, science has confirmed that this autoimmune disorder may be triggered by other wheat proteins, as well. This wheat protein, and related alcohol-soluble proteins (called prolamines), can also be found in rye and barley. →
(NaturalHealth365) Gluten is a type of plant protein found in certain grains like wheat, rye, and barley. But, for many people with poor digestion, gluten-free foods can trigger serious health problems – especially if they are contaminated with heavy metals!
As a little background: gluten-free foods have been shown toincrease inflammationin the gut; disturb moods; and decrease overall energy – even if you don’t test positive for a gluten intolerance. Understandably, many people now go to the grocery store with a gluten-free food list to minimize their exposure to this potentially harmful substance.
About 6 months ago, we reported ona landmark ruling against Monsantoin a case claiming that their pesticides cause cancer. Bayer AG, who acquired Monsanto in June of 2018, is now facing lawsuits from over 11,000 plaintiffs, all of whom are claiming that the products Roundup and Ranger Pro are harmful to our health.
The focus of these claims isglyphosate, the primary ingredient in both products. Lawyers representing these plaintiffs have claimed that the pesticides cause cancer and attack healthy gut bacteria. According to Reuters, they’ve also made allegations that the company attempted to influence regulators and manipulate public opinion regarding the safety of their products.
Today, we’re going to look at the dangers of glyphosate, the current legal battles faced by Bayer, and the extent to which these pesticides have permeated our food and water supplies.
