I takt med att det moderna samhället har vuxit fram har även antalet olika åkommor som människor lider av ökat markant. Läkemedelsindustrin har i mångas ögon klivit in som en räddare i nöden och har tagit fram någon form av mirakelpiller eller kur till de sjukdomar som människor lider av. Det som många dock inte tänker på är att också läkemedelsföretagen är vinstdrivande företag. Det finns alltså inget ekonomiskt incitament till att bota några sjukdomar, utan livslång medicinering är lika med en trogen kund och en säker inkomst under lång tid framöver.
