Läkemedelsföretaget Moderna meddelade förra tisdag att de har påbörjat en studie där företaget nu testar sitt covid-vaccin på spädbarn från sex månader och barn upp till 12 år. Antal friska barn från USA och Kanada som ingår i studien uppges vara 6750. Syftet med att testa vaccinet på unga är att hjälpa till att producera flockimmuniteten för att i sin tur stoppa pandemin, skriver New York Times.

Peter J. Hotez är är en forskare, barnläkare, utvecklare av vaccin och författaren av boken Vaccines Did Not Cause Rachel’s Autism: My Journey as a Vaccine Scientist, Pediatrician, and Autism Dad. Dr. Hotez har begärt ett förbud mot sådana böcker, filmer, webbplatser och sociala medier-konton som skiljer sig från hans åsikt om vacciner. Hotez som menar att vaccin inte kan orsaka autism och autismliknande symtom argumenterar att förändringarna i hjärnan hos barn med autism händer under graviditetens första trimester, och att vaccin därför inte kan orsaka autism. Hotez säger ”Det finns minst 99 autismgener kopplade till fosterhormonutveckling, främst relaterade till genuttryck i hjärnceller eller till kommunikation mellan neuroner. Många av dessa resulterar i anatomiska förändringar under den prenatala utvecklingen (graviditeten), vilket innebär långt innan barn ens blir vaccinerade.” →
